ADAM SZENTPÉTERY: NETWORK in SNG

The exhibition „Network“, the first solo exhibition by the Slovak painter Adam Szentpétery to be staged at the Slovak National Gallery, offers a comprehensive overview of his more than forty-year career.
The artist has long worked with geometric abstraction, employing a visual language based on fundamental elements – line, plane, and colour. He combines these into carefully conceived visual structures that reflect a rational approach and an emphasis on economy of form.
A typical feature of his work is the use of a geometric grid composed of horizontals, verticals, and diagonals. He complements these structures with successive layers of overlapping colour planes that create visual tension, rhythm, and an illusion of movement. In some paintings, space is distorted, compressed, or rotated; in others, the artist shifts the main compositional tension to the edges of the canvas, thereby disrupting the traditional perception of pictorial balance.
The exhibition runs from 29 May 2026 to 25 October 2026 in Room 9.
