If you want to experience Bratislava's contemporary cultural scene rather than just its history, A4 is the place to go. This multifunctional, non-commercial centre in the heart of the city is dedicated to contemporary theatre, dance, music, film, visual culture and new media art. With over 300 events a year, there is almost always something on.

What to expect

A4 covers a wide range of art forms under one roof. The music programme focuses on original, authentic work with both international and Slovak artists at the forefront of contemporary sound. Theatre is represented by the resident SkRAT company as well as visiting professional groups from Slovakia and abroad, alongside the best of the domestic independent scene.

Dance has a strong presence too, with regular performances by the Debris Company, one of Slovakia’s most significant physical theatre ensembles, and ties to festivals including NuDanceFest and Bratislava in Motion.

The cinema programme is deliberately alternative, giving space to creative documentaries, experimental films and art films that rarely find a home in mainstream venues. Screenings are thematically curated and often focus on auteur cinema and female filmmakers.
