Atelier EM
- Galleries
Ateliér.EM is a unique contemporary art space in Bratislava located in the former studio of sculptor Erna Masarovičová (1926–2008). Since 2009 it has served as a living platform for international artistic collaboration, exhibitions and site-specific creation. The project was founded by artist and curator Kata Kissoczy and continues to function as an active space where contemporary artists meet, create and exhibit their work.
What is Ateliér.EM?
Ateliér.EM is an association and artistic platform established in 2009 on the occasion of the first international symposium Hommage à Erna Masarovičová.
The studio continues the legacy of Erna Masarovičová, one of the most important figures in Slovak sculpture, medal-making and jewellery design. Her former studio has become a place where contemporary artists engage with her artistic heritage and the unique atmosphere of the space.
Between 2009 and 2020, more than 150 international artists from Europe, the USA and other countries participated in residencies and symposia here, making it an important meeting point for Slovak and international art.
What to expect
Ateliér.EM is not a traditional museum, but a living studio and exhibition environment. Visitors can experience:
- contemporary sculpture and site-specific installations
- artworks created directly in response to the studio space
- international artistic collaborations and symposium projects
- exhibitions reflecting both Slovak and global visual arts
The space continuously evolves as new works are created and installed on site.
Gallery spaces
The Ateliér.EM project also includes additional exhibition spaces:
- ZáHRADA Gallery (Langsfeldova 2, Bratislava) – outdoor and year-round display of sculptures and site-specific works created since 2009

These spaces extend the studio into a broader open-air and experimental exhibition environment.
