If you think science is boring, Aurelium will change your mind in about ten minutes. This hands-on science adventure centre is part school, part amusement park, and entirely unlike any museum you've visited before. Everything here is designed to be touched, tested, and figured out for yourself.
What to Expect
Aurelium’s exhibits span physics, mathematics, optics, biology and more, but none of it feels like a textbook. You’ll find yourself pulling levers, testing illusions and triggering reactions without realising you’re learning anything. Highlights include a Tesla World exhibition and a laser show, both running at set times (11:00, 13:00 and 15:00). The philosophy behind it all comes from Jan Amos Comenius’s idea of Schola Ludus, learning through play, and it genuinely works.
The centre is recommended for visitors aged 12 and up, ideally with a basic curiosity about how things work. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
Getting There
Located in the Matador campus in Nové Mesto, about 15 minutes from the Old Town by public transport. Booking in advance is recommended, especially for school groups and weekends.
Tips
- Book ahead at aurelium.sk — walk-ins are possible but slots can fill up
- First Saturday of each month is free, great for families on a budget
- Allow at least 2 hours to do the exhibits justice
