The hill where the castle stands today has held strategic importance for 4,500 years, dating back to the Eneolithic period. Later, the Celts established a fortified settlement here, serving as an acropolis for the area. During the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century, the castle became a significant center and likely the residence of a prince. By the 11th century, it was rebuilt into a stone palace alongside the Church of St. Saviour.
