Bratislava Forest Park

  • Parks & Gardens

A vast green area on the city’s northern edge, stretching across the foothills of the Little Carpathians. It includes popular recreation spots such as Železná studnička, Koliba, Kamzík and Kačín – ideal for hiking, cycling and picnics in the forest, just a few minutes from the city centre.

A Forest for Everyone

Covering nearly 30 square kilometres, the Bratislava Forest Park (Bratislavský lesopark) is one of the largest urban green areas in Central Europe. It includes beloved recreation zones such as Železná studnička, Koliba, Kamzík, Partizánska lúka, and Kačín – each with its own character and charm.

The area has been a favourite weekend destination for Bratislavans since the 19th century, when the first forest trails and rest areas were created. Today, it’s a mosaic of quiet valleys, picnic meadows, hiking paths, and cycling routes connecting the city to the mountains.

What to Experience

  • Železná studnička: Lakes, picnic areas, and forest cafés perfect for families. Pedal boats in summer, cross-country trails in winter.

  • Koliba and Kamzík Hill: A popular spot for hiking, forest restaurants, and the TV tower viewpoint with panoramic city views.

  • Kačín and Partizánska lúka: Ideal for picnics, barbecues, and forest playgrounds. Often used for local festivals and outdoor events.

  • Forest trails: Over 60 km of marked walking and cycling routes, connecting to the Little Carpathian hiking network.

💡 Fun fact: The cable car between Železná studnička and Kamzík once operated in the 1970s and is currently being considered for renewal as a heritage attraction.

Nature & Heritage

The forest is home to beech and oak trees, forest meadows, and protected plant species. In the early morning or evening, you might spot roe deer, foxes, or woodpeckers.
Scattered across the park are historic picnic shelters, old wells (studničky), and small monuments that recall its long tradition as Bratislava’s “people’s forest.”

Our Tip

Start your walk at Partizánska lúka and follow the path along the lakes up to Kamzík. Stop for a coffee at one of the forest lodges or a meal at Koliba Expo. Families will love the playground on Železná studnička.

In the Neighbourhood

The Forest Park borders the Kramáre and Koliba districts and connects naturally with the Little Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. From here, you can continue further to Marianka, Pezinok, or Rača’s vineyards — all within reach by trail or bike.
