A modern art museum on a Danube peninsula, blending contemporary creativity with striking architecture.
Modern Art on the Danube
The Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum stands on a narrow peninsula near Čunovo, about 15 km south of Bratislava, surrounded by the flowing Danube. Opened in 2000, it was founded by Dutch art patron Gerard Meulensteen and Slovak gallerist Vincent Polakovič, who envisioned a space dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Its architecture evokes the form of a Roman galley, creating a dramatic silhouette against the water and sky. The museum presents works by leading Slovak, European, and international artists, offering a diverse mix of painting, sculpture, and multimedia installations.

Exhibitions, Sculpture Park & River Views
Inside, visitors encounter rotating exhibitions alongside a permanent collection that highlights both established and emerging artists. Outdoors, an 8,000 m² sculpture park displays large‑scale works that interact with the natural riverside setting. The museum’s rooftop walkway provides panoramic views of Bratislava, the Small Carpathians, and the Danube, especially memorable at sunset. With its blend of art, architecture, and landscape, Danubiana has become a celebrated symbol of contemporary culture in Slovakia.
