Horský park
- Parks & Gardens
Horský park — a forested escape in the heart of Bratislava, combining century-old trees, hidden stairways, a café in the woods and a tranquil place to breathe, run or simply be.
Where City Meets Forest
Horský park – a forest oasis just minutes from the city centre is nestled on the slopes between the Old Town and the Slavín Memorial, Horský Park is one of Bratislava’s most beloved green spaces — a peaceful woodland escape right in the heart of the city.
A Historic Woodland in the Heart of Bratislava
Founded in the late 19th century, Horský Park was designed as a “forest park” combining natural woodland with landscaped paths and viewpoints. Its mix of native beech and oak trees with rare species such as ginkgo and larch creates a calm, shaded refuge just a short walk from the city’s historical core.
What to Experience
-
Horáreň Horský Park: The cosy forest lodge café at the park’s centre serves coffee, snacks, and local treats, with a large garden and playground.
-
Mini-Zoo: Right behind the café, children can visit a small outdoor mini-zoo with goats, rabbits, and other animals cared for by local volunteers.
-
Sculpture Gallery: Along the main path stands a free outdoor gallery of Slovak sculpture, featuring works by contemporary artists in harmony with nature.
-
Walking Trails: The park’s meandering paths and stone stairways offer a perfect route for walking, jogging, or quiet reflection among tall trees.
💡 Fun fact: Horský Park was originally called Students’ Forest — the result of a 19th-century civic campaign to create a public woodland for study, leisure, and nature appreciation.
In the Neighbourhood
The park lies just below the Slavín War Memorial, making it easy to combine a forest walk with one of Bratislava’s most impressive viewpoints. From here, it’s only a 15-minute walk to the Old Town or a short ride on public transport.
Our Tip
Stop by Horáreň for coffee and a slice of cake, then stroll through the shady forest paths to Slavín for a panoramic view of the city. In the evening, locals love to sit outside the café garden, listening to the birds and the soft hum of the city below.
