A Museum Preserving Jewish Heritage in Slovakia
The Museum of Jewish Culture is a branch of the Slovak National Museum dedicated to safeguarding and presenting Jewish cultural and artistic heritage in Slovakia. Its mission includes collecting, documenting, and exhibiting cultural items, historical documents, and artifacts connected to Jewish life, as well as preserving Holocaust memory. The museum is housed in the Baroque‑era Zsigray Mansion on Židovská Street, one of the few surviving buildings from Bratislava’s former Jewish quarter, which was largely demolished in the 1960s during the construction of the SNP Bridge.

Exhibitions Highlighting Culture, Daily Life, and Memory
The permanent exhibition presents Judaica, everyday objects, religious items, manuscripts, and artworks that illustrate centuries of Jewish presence in Slovakia. Highlights include two rare 18th‑century Chevra Kadisha jugs from Senica, as well as displays on Jewish holidays, synagogue interiors, and notable Jewish personalities. A memorial section is dedicated to approximately 70,000 Holocaust victims from Slovakia, providing historical context and personal stories.
