On the Danube riverfront, just steps from the Eurovea promenade, stands one of the most important cultural buildings in Slovakia. The new building of the Slovak National Theatre has been the home of opera, ballet and drama in Bratislava since it opened on 14 April 2007, and an evening here is one of the finest cultural experiences the city has to offer.

The Slovak National Theatre is the first and most important theatre stage in Slovakia and has been one of the symbols of Bratislava’s cultural life for more than a hundred years. In its modern building on the Danube riverfront, in close proximity to the Eurovea shopping centre and its promenade, it offers performances throughout the season up to six days a week, bringing audiences the very best from the world of opera, ballet, and drama.

The Slovak National Theatre is the largest and most significant professional theatre in Slovakia, with three artistic ensembles:

The Opera of the Slovak National Theatre presents world opera repertoire performed by leading Slovak and international soloists, conductors, the resident choir, and orchestra (La Traviata, Eugene Onegin, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Rusalka, The Marriage of Figaro, Aida, Don Giovanni, etc.).

The Ballet of the Slovak National Theatre presents licensed works by major world choreographers in impressive productions with spectacular stage design and beautiful costumes (Swan Lake, Manon, Onegin, Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, Bolero+, etc.).

The Drama of the Slovak National Theatre stages both classical and contemporary works of world drama performed by leading and popular Slovak actors (War and Peace, Macbeth, Apartment at the Bristol Hotel, Everything Goes Wrong, The Fools of Valencia, Kocúrkovo, etc.).

A visit to the Slovak National Theatre is not only an encounter with top-level art, but also a unique social and aesthetic experience in the heart of Bratislava.
