Museum of Transport in Bratislava

  • Museums

A museum showcasing Slovakia’s road, rail, and technical transport history on the site of the city’s first steam railway station.

Historic Railway Setting

The Transport Museum is located beside Bratislava’s Main Railway Station on the grounds of the city’s first steam‑railway station, where the first train arrived in 1848. The preserved rails and platforms form part of the exhibition, allowing visitors to explore locomotives displayed directly on the original tracks. Among the highlights is a 155‑ton 1947 Škoda steam engine, one of the most striking examples of post‑war Slovak engineering. The museum opened in 1999 as a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum.

Vehicles, Locomotives & Technical Exhibits

Across two exhibition halls, the museum presents nearly 100 motorcars, 25 historical motorcycles, and numerous technical accessories, most originating from what is now Slovakia. Visitors can see iconic Czechoslovak vehicles such as the 1937 Praga Golden, the Tatra 613K cabriolet, and the Škoda 130 RS rally car, along with unusual motorbikes and a recreated railway signalman’s office. Outdoor exhibits include steam and electric locomotives, and a model railway carriage is often open on weekends.
